WSAPPX is a process that runs in the background on your Windows 10/8 computer as a part of Microsoft’s Windows Store and the Universal app platform. It is Use for installations, updates, and uninstallation of Store apps, so once you install all updates, you don’t need it. But at times, you may face situations where you find that this process uses a high disk, CPU, or memory. The Wsappx process might cause this. You need to know about it, why it runs automatically, and how to stop it for good. And you may see it running in the background or using a significant amount of CPU and disk resources.

Wsappx: The Basics

The Wsappx process runs in the background on your Windows as a part of the Windows Store and the Universal app platform of Microsoft. Wsappx provides better performance and stability of Universal Windows Platform applications, which are available on Windows 10 devices. This service automatically turns on when you update your Windows to version 1607 or later. So, if you’re using a device running an older version of Windows 10, you need to turn it on manually by following these steps.

The wsappx process includes two separate background services.  Windows 8 and 10, wsappx includes the AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC). On Windows 10, you’ll also see the Client License Service (ClipSVC). Wsappx Windows 8, you’ll also see the Windows Store Service (WSService) instead of ClipSVC. You might see errors and then wonder what’s taking up all the space on your hard drive. To be clear, you can still create files using a non-system app like Windows Photo Viewer. But Wsappx high disk will take up space on your hard drive because these apps don’t use their sandbox environment like the default OS application does (yes, sandboxing adds an extra overhead).

In some cases, WSAPPX doesn’t even show up in Task Manager or Process Explorer when using those tools to investigate what’s running on your PC. One solution is to go through your computer with the tools and see what programs are running when it feels slow; uninstalling apps that are no longer needed helps too. You may need to delete some photos or videos of your camera or phone if they’ve been syncing back automatically – there could also be rogue malware in play, so investigate that.
